The Southwest Hosts Enhancing Lifelong Learning (SHELL) is a project that was funded by the JISC from April 2002 to February 2005 under its MLEs for Lifelong Learning programme http://www.jisc.ac.uk/index.cfm?name=mle_lifelonglearning_info with a focus on building MLEs across HE and FE. The project aimed to integrate technologies between the University of Plymouth and its FE partner colleges, in particular, the development of single student registration and transfer of information for students moving from FE to HE. The Learning Matrix will build on the ioNode middleware server solution developed by Phosphorix to support the integration and interoperability of the various SHELL partners' student information systems.
